Calculating your CGPA for IPU can seem confusing at first, but it follows a straightforward credit-based system. Whether you are aiming for top placements or higher studies, knowing and tracking of your CGPA is essential.

How to Calculate CGPA for IPU University?

IPU uses a credit-based grading system. To calculate your CGPA, you need two metrics from each of your completed semesters: the (SGPA) and the Total Credits assigned to that semester.

The mathematical formula is:

CGPA = Sum of (Semester GPA × Semester Credits) ÷ Total Credits of all Semesters

Example:

  • Semester 1: SGPA = 8.5, Credits = 22
  • Semester 2: SGPA = 9.0, Credits = 24

Calculation: ((8.5 × 22) + (9.0 × 24)) ÷ (22 + 24)
= (187 + 216) ÷ 46
= 8.76 CGPA

Equivalent Percentage = CGPA × 10

For example, if your final calculated CGPA is 8.45, your equivalent percentage would be 8.45 × 10 = 84.5%.

How Much CGPA is Considered Good in IPU?

A "good" CGPA depends heavily on your post-graduation goals (campus placements vs. higher studies abroad) and your specific degree, but here is a general benchmark for IPU students:

  • 8.5 to 10.0 (Excellent): Highly competitive. This tier makes you eligible for almost all top-tier and "Dream" companies during campus placement drives.
  • 7.5 to 8.4 (Good): A very safe zone. You will comfortably clear the academic cutoffs for the vast majority of mass recruiters and mid-tier IT companies.
  • 6.5 to 7.4 (Average): Acceptable, but you might face restrictions for some strict company cutoffs (many require a minimum of 7.0 or 7.5). You will need strong technical skills and projects to stand out.
  • Below 6.5: You may struggle with placement eligibility criteria. It is highly recommended to focus on improving your grades in upcoming semesters.
