KIIT CGPA Calculator – SGPA, CGPA & Percentage (B.Tech)

This calculator follows the academic regulations of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), Bhubaneswar, for B.Tech students from the 2021 batch onwards. Enter your grades and credits for your SGPA, add your semesters for the CGPA, and convert it into a percentage.

How KIIT calculates SGPA and CGPA

KIIT uses seven grades on a 10-point scale, from O (90 to 100 marks, 10 points) to D (40 to 49, 5 points). D is enough to pass a theory subject, but practicals and sessionals need at least a C.

Two rules make KIIT different from most universities. First, a failed subject (F) carries 2 grade points, not 0, and its credits stay in the total. Second, a course with an I (incomplete, for example after missing the end-semester exam) is left out of the SGPA completely until it gets a regular grade. The CGPA uses the same formula over all courses of all semesters so far.

KIIT grade points: KIIT UG Academic Regulations

Applies to: B.Tech students from the 2021 batch onwards.

GradeGrade pointsMarksMeaning
O1090 to 100Outstanding
E980 to 89Excellent
A870 to 79Very good
B760 to 69Good
C650 to 59Fair (lowest pass grade for practicals and sessionals)
D540 to 49Pass (theory subjects only)
F2Below 40Failed
I2Incomplete (left out of the SGPA)

SGPA: SGPA = sum of (credits × grade points) ÷ sum of credits over the semester's courses, leaving out courses with an I grade (Clause 7.0). Courses with an F stay in, at 2 grade points.

CGPA: CGPA = the same sum over all courses of all semesters so far, F grades included. The B.Tech degree needs a CGPA of at least 6.0 and no F or I grade.

Percentage: Percentage = CGPA × 10, as given in KIIT's certificates on CGPA conversion (December 2020). KIIT notes that it does not itself award a percentage.

Example

A semester with O in a 4-credit course (40 credit points), E in a 3-credit course (27) and F in a 3-credit course (3 × 2 = 6): 73 credit points over 10 credits, SGPA = 7.3. If the third course were an I instead of an F, it would be left out: 67 credit points over 7 credits, SGPA = 9.57.

KIIT CGPA to percentage

KIIT's certificates on CGPA conversion give the formula: percentage = CGPA × 10, so a CGPA of 8.2 is 82%. The same certificates point out that KIIT itself does not award a percentage; the formula is for employers and universities that ask for one.

Frequently asked questions

Why does an F count as 2 points at KIIT?

The university's regulations and the Controller of Examinations give F a grade point of 2. Some older handbooks show 0, but the regulations are what results are based on.

What CGPA do I need for the KIIT B.Tech degree?

A CGPA of at least 6.0, with no F or I grade left, at least a D in every theory subject and at least a C in every practical and sessional.

Does KIIT give a class or division?

No. KIIT reports your CGPA only, without a class or division.
