RGPV CGPA Calculator – SGPA, CGPA & Percentage (B.Tech)

This calculator follows the B.Tech ordinances of Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV), Bhopal: Ordinance 4(C) for students admitted from July 2017, and Ordinance 4(D) under NEP 2020 for the newer batches. Both use the same grades and formulas. Enter your grades and credits for your SGPA, add your semesters for the CGPA, and convert it into a percentage.

How RGPV calculates SGPA and CGPA

RGPV grades every subject on absolute marks, from A+ (91 to 100, 10 points) down to D (31 to 40, 4 points), the lowest pass grade. 30 marks and below is F. An I (incomplete) or W (withdrawal) also carries 0 points. To pass, you need at least a D in the subject and, separately, in its end-semester theory and practical exams.

Your SGPA is the sum of credits × grade points over all subjects of the semester, divided by the total credits, with F, I and W counted at 0 points. The CGPA is each semester's SGPA × its credits, added up and divided by the total credits. Extra credits earned through MOOCs are not counted in either.

RGPV grade points: B.Tech Ordinance 4(C) and 4(D)

Applies to: B.Tech students admitted from July 2017 onwards (Ordinance 4(C), and 4(D) under NEP 2020 with the same grades and formulas).

SGPA: SGPA = sum of (credits × grade points) ÷ sum of credits over all subjects of the semester (Clause 5.8). F, I and W count as 0 points with their credits included. Extra credits earned through MOOCs are not counted.

CGPA: CGPA = sum of (SGPA × credits of the semester) ÷ sum of the semesters' credits (Clause 5.8). The degree needs a CGPA of at least 5.0. Division (Clause 7.1): 7.5 and above First Division with Distinction, 6.5 to below 7.5 First Division, 5.0 to below 6.5 Second Division.

Percentage: Percentage = CGPA × 10, as given in Clause 7.2 of the B.Tech ordinances.

Example

A+ in a 4-credit subject (40 credit points), A in 3 credits (27), B+ in 3 credits (24) and F in 2 credits (0): 91 credit points over 12 credits, SGPA = 7.58. Two semesters with an SGPA of 7.58 over 22 credits and 8.1 over 20 credits give a CGPA of (166.76 + 162) ÷ 42 = 7.83.

RGPV CGPA to percentage

Clause 7.2 of both ordinances gives the formula: percentage = CGPA × 10. A CGPA of 7.83 is 78.3%.

Frequently asked questions

What CGPA is first division at RGPV?

7.5 and above is first division with distinction, 6.5 to below 7.5 first division, and 5.0 to below 6.5 second division. You need a CGPA of at least 5.0 for the degree, and also to move up to the 5th and 7th semesters.

Is a small CGPA shortfall forgiven?

A very small one is. Ordinance 4(C) condones a shortfall of 0.01 below the minimum CGPA and 4(D) one of 0.001, and the Vice-Chancellor can give a grace of 0.01 to reach first division or distinction.

Which ordinance am I under?

4(C) covers students admitted from July 2017, and 4(D) the batches under NEP 2020. For this calculator it makes no difference: the grades, SGPA, CGPA and percentage are the same in both.
